Alberta Plastics Recycling Association (APRA)
Monthly Feature Articles
Networking is an important feature for APRA and to promote this, we started adding feature articles in each of APRA's monthly newsletters. To prepare each newsletter, I send out a customized questionnaire to a member and ask questions regarding their business and what they enjoy about being an APRA member. From their responses, I prepare an article in Word and send it to my manager for proofing and then a final proofing to the client to ensure the information we have is correct. When the article is approved, we make mention of the article in our newsletter and post it on our website.

SURE Print Avenida Social Media Content/Design
To promote SURE Print Avenida, I took on their Instagram and Facebook accounts to make reels, stories, and posts about all that goes on in the shop. When there was something new and exciting being made in the shop I'd grab my phone and get content (even though my coworker doesn't like the camera much haha!). I'd also research what our competitors were posting and what made them successful. With some YouTube and general internet research I found more ways to try and gain followers organically through reels, following accounts with similar interests, and more.
University of Calgary Final Project: Defining "New Media"
As part of our final class in communications, we were asked to create a presentation using any media format to define a word that was given to each of us. I was given the term "new media", and since I already had a website builder through Adobe, I wanted to create a virtual museum representing the history of the term "New Media". I believe that for us to understand the new, we have to look at the patterns and developments of the old. My favourite part about this project was the research portion. I had found a YouTube video before the class that was a mini documentary on "Springboard", one of the first cellphones to exist (as seen under the "Physical Changes" section of the website below). It explained the trials and successes of adapting their technology to the general public's needs. I connected the different physical adaptations of the device to cater to upcoming needs from the public to create what we would call "new media".
University of Calgary Case Study: No Frills "Haulin' State of Mind"
Who would think that an advertisement campaign would make their own entire rap album on grocery shopping?! This case study project asked us to look at an advertisement campaign that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. I wanted to choose something lighthearted since it was a difficult time for everyone so I had chosen No Frills advertisement campaign called, "Haulin' State of Mind". They went above and beyond with this campaign by including a rap album and a high-quality animated advertisement to make shoppers feel "heroic". The point of this heroic theme was to empower their customers who were grocery shopping at their stores despite all the government regulated restrictions.

University of Calgary Communications Media Kit for the EMS Foundation
For a non-profit organization of our choice, we were asked to create a media kit complete with a cover letter, media release, biographies, and more. This project was enjoyable because it dealt with real world organizations where we could think about ways to promote their goods/services. I had taken the safer route of promoting the need for cars to move out of the way safely and quickly when an emergency vehicle is coming behind you in traffic. While it was an easy message to promote, I knew it was necessary since I've seen many Calgary drivers on the roads that have failed to get out of the path of an EMS vehicle effectively.

University of Calgary Group Communications Plan
This project was completed with another classmate online during COVID. Since she still lived in China it was difficult to see each others progress when our active hours were so different. I also remember it being tough to motivate my team member to complete her portion but thankfully we were able to complete everything in time. We were able to overcome our challenge of time differences and work expectations by creating a shared Google document where I had laid out specific plans for us to update as we could. This was an exciting project where we could make plans for a non-profit fundraiser and research what the project would include, who would be our competitors, and more.
